Re-Cap: Everblades vs Wranglers (5/22/12)

What is there to say about last night's Everblades game? The guys were awesome most of the time and any time they weren't John Muse was giving us reason to scream "MOOOOOOOSEEEEEE" as loud as we could.

A very rare specimen of Northeastern Arena Moose (massholias bamfus)
The guys have a chance to end our 14 years of waiting tonight. There probably won't be a single seat available by the time the game starts. All the local news stations are making the Blades a top story rather than a five second blurb once a week.

Basically, down is up and right is left, and it feels so good.

The pictures from last night (including awesome shots of the player intros)

Let's not even kid ourselves. Losing sucks.

Unfortunately, the Everblades couldn't win every single game. It just wouldn't be fair and honestly, it would make their victories a little less exciting. Of course,  that's not going to stop me from feeling a little grumpy (staying up so late hasn't helped either, I'm sure).

It doesn't matter though. This is a best of seven series and the Blades have plenty of time. It only takes the bounces shifting our way for the tide to turn. Ratchuck started it last night. Now the other guys have to finish it.

It's time to forget last night and get ourselves into the right frame of mind. Luckily, This song is totally appropriate.

Of course, in my world anything by The Clash is an appropriate choice.

On an unrelated note, comments are back to requiring our approval because Wranglers fans have had all their brain cells fried by the heat and I'm not wasting Bloggers server space with their idiocy.

Re-Cap: Everblades vs. Road Warriors

I have one word for you!

SWEEEEEP!!!

I'm too happy to do a re-cap. Enjoy the only way I could relieve stress during the game:

Or it could be the eyebrows. They are a bit overwhelming.

Little know fact: Sebastien Piche can shoot laser from his mustache. No lie.
I don't claim to be good at Photoshop (or MS paint as it actually was) by the way.

Anyway, we play the winner of the yet undecided Reading/Jackals series. Doesn't matter though. It's all us. Giddy-up.

News and Notes

The Everblades didn't do too well on their road trip. Two points out of six? Not ideal obviously. Luckily our two home games this weak will be against the perpetually struggling Trenton Titans. They're currently sitting in eighth in the conference. That's a little hard to swallow when you consider we won the Brabham Cup three seasons ago.

- Links to the game re-caps if you haven't seen them yet- loss to the Gladiators, loss to the Road Warriors, win in the shoot-out against the Road Warriors.

- Maybe the Blades struggles of late can be contributed to the Jr. Blades stealing all the winning mojo from the Germain atmosphere. They cleaned up at the Palm Beach Showcase they attended over the weekend going a perfect 4-0 during the tournament. That makes their record 22-0-1-0. Congratulations guys!

- You guys know I adore the Third String Goalie blog. Well, they were kind enough to to feature the weirdest (and my favorite) jersey in my extremely weird collection. As you can imagine, having a jersey from my collection featured on a blog I read religiously made my day.

- I've talked about this before and Woody over at the Blades' Blog agrees. If you're not using Twitter an following the Blades players and other blades fans, you're missing out.

- I've started a list of current and former Everblades players on Twitter to help you out. I have not included players who have set their accounts to private. I'm creepy, but not creepy enough to invade their privacy.

- If you do decide to join Twitter (and are kind enough to follow me), make sure you tweet me that you're an Everblades fan, that way I can follow you back and let other Blades fans know you just joined. I'll make it super easy copy this- @swamphockey I'm an Everblades fan that just joined Twitter! - and paste it into the little box and press the tweet button. Easy as can be, and a fun way to meet new Blades fans. If you already follow me and I haven't followed you back, let me know (I can be a little oblivious sometimes).

YouTube Tuesday

Today's YouTube Tuesday is a video round-up of the Wheeling Florida series.

First up, the video of the nasty hit on  Kyle Lawson and David Rutherford's first fight as an Everblades:

Next up, the highlights of the 11/9 game courtesy of the Nailers. I'm pretty sure Roy going puck hunting under delmas is what got him off of his game so bad in that period. I'm also sure that I wanted blood after Muse was run over.

Side note: I could re-watch Bruess' goal a million times. So awesome.

Last, the highlights from the 11/11 game. Oh man, thinking of that game still gives me happy feelings.

Sadly (but not really), there doesn't appear to be any highlights from Saturday's loss. Too bad.

News and Notes

The Blades may not have swept the Nailers, but winning two of three games against one of the best teams in the ECHL is nothing to laugh at. I'm not going to do a re-cap of Saturday's game since I heard only around 15 minutes of it thanks to radio issues and I refuse to write my re-caps off of game notes.

-I do have the pictures from Friday's game:

-This is my favorite from the set. Leigh Salters' goal!

093

-I have a video or two to get up on to YouTube and I'll post those videos along with some others I've found in a big round-up tomorrow.

- It appears that the Nailers player that boarded Kyle Lawson will not be suspended or fined. Super.

- Right before Saturday's game the Blades announced they received Scott Fletcher in a trade from Toledo. I suggest checking him out on YouTube. Dude can throw some bombs.

The Players have a week off until Fridays game. Hopefully, we can get some players healthy.

YouTube Tuesday

The Blades only managed to get two points out of their marathon road trip. Suprisingly, their best showing came from the third game in three nights.

To celebrate, lets watch Trevor Bruess take on one of the Royals. This came a few minutes after the Blades scored their third unanswered goal in the first period.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only Everblades fan that's really begun to like Trevor Bruess. The dude is half sandpaper, half canonball.

In happy news, Justin Shugg was named player of the week. Congrats dude! This led to me finding out some people refer to him as the Shuggernaut. Pretty sure that's one of the best hockey nicknames ever. Also, the Everblades are tops in the division and second in the Confrence right now. Crazy.

Photo Time!

A little late on these, but here are the photos I took at Friday's game.

Also, here's a video a fan took of the opening intro. It's a little hard to see, but it's just about the most hilarious thing ever.

Photos and Videos

Since I'm still getting back into regular season form there won't be any re-cap of the game. Luckily, my photography skills didn't degrade as much as the guys passing skills. You can head over to the flickr stream for the game or enjoy this sideshow.

I also managed to get video of two of the fights from last night:

Hopefully, the game tonight goes a little better than last nights. Sheesh.

because honestly, there is no way to re-cap the game. They played horribly and they should consider themselves lucky it was only 5-0. It seems the team held a meeting after the game. I can only hope this will be what the team needs to wake-up. Personally, I'm tired of giving them the benefit of the doubt. I hope they prove me wrong, but it's hard to believe they'll actually care enough to try.

Bits and Pieces

Lets get the bad news out of the way first.

- Blades lost Sunday. Booo.

Now for the fun stuff.

- I finally got the photos from Pink in the Rink up on Flickr. At some point the Bolts practice will be up. No idea when that will be.

- Love this story from the Pink in the Rink jersey auction. I'm proud to love the same team as that amazing couple.

Friday Links

Happy Friday everyone! Here's your weekly dose of fantasic links to keep you busy until the Everblades game tonight.

- I wasn't able to see Wednesday's game (because a certain local restaurant that advertises that they show Everblades games doesn't, in fact, play Everblades games). You can read a re-cap here.

- One of our local boys scored his first professional goal. Congrats!

- Your Wikipedia hockey page for today- "Ice Hockey Broadcasting"

- I love this post from Third String Goalie about this jersey from 1915.

-Thank god another ECHL team has decided to top the hideousness of the Everblades holiday jerseys.

- OK, I have to admit, this hockey puck clock is kind of neat.

- Random speculation and complaints about the ECHL is par for the course, but this conversation was interesting to me at least.

- There are a lot of former Everblades doing really well this year according to this list.

- Down Goes Brown is hilarious (as usual).

- What's Friday without a kitty?

funny pictures - I fought the ball and the ball won.

News and Notes

Here's a quick round-up of the news you need to know.

- That little brawl the Blades had Saturday (which I missed, grrrr) made Puck Daddy. That's the third post on them this season!

- A re-cap of the game on Saturday.

- Photos from Wednesday and Friday are up on Flickr. I love this one of Mike Egener.

012

- I put two videos up on the blogs YouTube page.

- I love this article on Bobby Raymond. He's got to be the most underrated player in the ECHL right now.

- If you get the NHL network you'll be able to see the ECHL All-Star game. It's on at 6 pm Thursday.

News and Notes

First let's get the exciting new out of the way. Former Everblades goalie Anton Khudobin had his third NHL start last night. He managed to earn a shut-out against the Canucks! Here are two links to catch you up on how he did.

- Hockey Wilderness has the game re-cap here, and their Wilderness Walk (their collection of Wild story links) here.

- Over at Puck Daddy, he earned the second star of the night.

- At NHL.com he was named one of the three stars of the night, and they included some great pictures of him in their photo gallery.

On to our current Everblades.

- Here's the NDN game re-cap from Saturdays game.

- This story on David Fischer is a must read. If you don't get a little misty eyed there's something wrong with you.

- I forgot to mention I got pictures up on Flickr from the Cincinnati series, 1/5 and 1/7. I also put pictures up from last season that I found buried on my hard drive. The Royals game is here and the game against the Jackals is here.

- Mike McKenzie has another post up on his blog. It's a good one.

This week's series will be a big one. The last time the Royals came to town they crused the Blades playoff chances. Hopefully, we some players will be healthy enough to be moved from the IR. We'll need them.

Friday Links

Happy Friday people! I'm blogging to you live from a McDonalds. Glamorous right? It's just how awesome ECHL bloggers roll people. I'm sure you're all super jealous of me sitting here sipping my yummy (not) carmel frappe, being leered at by old men while they sip their senior discount coffee. Anyway, here's your usual stash of fun links!

- I was at the College Classic yesterday so I wasn't able to listen to the Everblades game. Apparently, that was for the best.

- This hockey board game is seriously cool.

- Only one of the Everblades made it to the All-Star game. Hard to imagine a team that has five players dominating most of the major stats categories only has one player invited, but whatever. Way to go Mitch Fadden, have fun in California dude.

- Did you know the Zamboni company has a store? With shirts?! I think I could spend more money there than on my favorite shoe website, and I love shoe websites.

- Third String Goalie has become one of my must-read websites. My favorite this week? Their look at Ref jerseys. Neat to see the zebras duds have evolved too.

- I got Pelle Lindbergh: Behind the White Mask for Christmas. It's an amazing look at an amazing man. I have to warn you though, I've been sobbing like a baby since the middle of the book. It's so sad, I'm only managing a chapter a day.

- I'm pretty sure my cats are in on the invasion too.

funny pictures - Yes...keep petting me...

News and Notes

Here's a bunch of bits and pieces to make Monday a little easier.

- The Blades ended up losing Saturday night 3-1. I missed most of the game, but what I did see was not impressive. You can read re-caps from Woody here.

- This great story from Woody on Alex Imbeault made the front page of  the ECHL website.

- I have all the pictures (10/17 & 10/19), and videos up. It's going to take me a while to get all the pictures tagged with the players, but it will be done eventually.

- Now that I've built up some pictures I'm going to try to tweet a picture of the day every day at 11:00. If you're still not willing to join twitter you can see it in the box on the lower left side of the blog or you can just peek at my Twitter profile.

- Former Eveblades goalie Barry Brust was featured in a post on Puck Daddy! I know Blades fans aren't suprised by Brusty being awesome, we saw all that last season, but it is nice to see the rest of the hockey world realize what we already know.

- The Jr. Blades have put up another hilarious video. It was too good for me to put off until tomorrow. (You probably shouldn't click play if you're at work though)

Re-Cap: Blades vs. Stingrays (11/6/10)

The Everblades didn't have the best night against the Stingrays Friday, allowing them to storm back in an impressive come from behind victory (score sheet here ). Obviously, you never want to give up any lead, but letting the second worst team in the conference catch you slacking is about as embarrassing as it gets.

-----------------

The first period was relatively a relatively flat affair with both teams trading lukewarm chances.Aside from a short 4 on 3 there wasn't anything really exciting. The period ended with both teams even at 0-0.

-----------------

The flat play changed in the second period. Both teams actually showed some signs of life. A goal from Mathieu Roy (assisted by Kennedy and Paquet) around the 6 minute mark gave the Blades the lead. Later, Alex Hutchings gave the Blades a more comfortable lead with a power play goal (in the last second of the penalty) in the later minutes of the period. The teams left the ice with Florida up 2-0.

-----------------

Obviously, the Stingrays spent most of the second intermission being yelled at. They never really stopped pressuring the Blades, and it paid off for them in the opening minutes when they score 54 seconds into the period to make it 2-1. By some grace of the hockey gods the Everblades were able to hold the Stingrays off as they applied major pressure. The solid play from the players and Jaroslav Janus playing out of his mind didn't hurt of course. In the end, the Blades managed to hold the Stingrays off. The final score was 2-1 and the SOG were 40-19. The final score sheet can be found here.

-----------------

Some quick thoughts:

- Jaroslav Janus had a really rough start but seems to have found his groove. He stopped 39 of 40 shots tonight and sounded really solid.

- Mitch Fadden now has a 6 game assist streak.

- The loss means the Stingrays are now in last place in the conference.

The Everblades will take on the Stingrays in a final game tomorrow at 4:00. They then will travel back to town for a short break before heading back on the road for a three game series with Greenville.

Friday Links

Happy Friday everyone. As always, here are some links to make your last day of work fly by.

- The Blades lost last night 4-1. You can read a re-cap from the team here. It was going pretty well for the Blades until goalie Bobby Goepfert to a slap shot to his collarbone. There hasn't been an update from the team yet, hopefully it's just minor.

- You can check out the fight videos from last nights game, including one of Trevor Hendrikx destroying a rookie, over at the Blades' Blog.

- Because my sense of humor is weird, your Wikipedia hockey page for today is "Violence in Ice Hockey."

- The Third String Goalie blog has an interesting look at former Tampa Bay Lightning player.

- I just ordered this book from Amazon, I'm super excited about it.

- It's hard to pick which of these tattoos is the ugliest. They're all just terrible.

- It's not Friday without a kitty.

Friday Links

The Blades lost to the Royals 5-4 last night. Unfortunately, I missed most of the game, and I hate writing a re-cap from the game sheet and the teams press release. Because of that, I'm going to be lazy and just leave those links for you.

Although I doubt you guys even noticed the lack of links last Friday, I still feel bad about missing it. To make it up to you I'll post this funny picture of Ernie.

Since I know I'm forgiven now, on to the links!

- Your Wikipedia hockey page- "One Timer"

- I really want this shirt, might order one next pay day...

- Some random hockey anecdotes, at least read down to the one about Bobby Hull's toupee.

- You can own an authentic, signed, game worn, Olympic hockey jersey. The problem? It's for Norway, and you have to have it shipped from England. Still, it says Norge on the front which is cool. I wish someone would put the team Finland jerseys up, they were cool.

- I was trying to see where Ross Carlson's goal 11 seconds into the second period Wednesday stood record-wise, but I couldn't find anything. I did find all the different records for the ECHL. I also found Danny Sabourin (one of my least favorite Penguins goalies) actually set a record.

The Blades will be back in town tomorrow night to take on the Royals. As always, check back for the live blog!
