Make it 18

I'm proud for actually being on top of posting on time. The Blades have announced the signing of defenseman John Wessbecker. This will be his first season playing professional hockey, he spent the last four years playing for University of Massachusetts-Amherst. His HockeyDB atats are here.He was also named to the Hockey East All-Academic team. This means that for all four years he played, he maintained at least a 3.0 GPA, and I'm geeky enough to be impressed by that.

Sadly, I could not find any videos of him on YouTube. Apparently some dude named John Cena is more important, (on a side note, does anyone still believe wrestling is real? It looked fake the first time I saw it, and I was six).

I'm still predicting one more signing, no hockey team can exhist with one goalie. And, it looks like our old friend Anton Khudobin is compeating with three other goalies for a roster spot with the Houston Aeros. It would be awesome to get him back, he was pretty dependable. Plus, he's from Kazakhstan, and thats just cool.

Now I'm Excited

As always I'm a little late on this, but I've been trying the whole healthy lifestyle thing. Instead of cuddling up with my dogs on the couch and watching re-runs of Meerkat Manor, I'm actually going to cardio classes and trying to get outdoors more.

So, anyway... the Blades announced the signing of forward Lee Jubinville (HockeyDB stats here). He has played for Princeton for the last four years and was a Hobey Baker nominee for the 07-08 season. He's also racked up a ton of other awards while at Princeton, but I don't feel like listing them. I do feel like embedding this YouTube video of him getting a shorthanded goal back in December of 2008. This guy can move!

We only have 15 more days until we get to see the Blades in action! And if the rumor I've heard is to be believed, there will be no open tryouts this year. Apparently the roster is set and they don't need want anyone else. They will have to announce the signing of a second goalie, there is no way any hockey team can get by with only one goalie. I'm thinking that is going to be announced sometime next week.

McJannet Returns!

Yesterday the Blades announced that forward Steve McJannet will be returning. I'm almost as excited about him returning as I was about Lang coming back. He always was a feisty, scrappy player and I can't wait to see him in action again this year. You can see his HockeyDB stats here.

Here is a video of him from one of my favorite games last year...

They came back from being down 1-4 to the Stingrays to win 6-5, I was really hoarse after that game!

Hockey season is getting closer! We're almost there!

Monday Randomness

Since I worked all weekend,I'm very tired. So, I just went ahead and scheduled this post for all 3 of our regular readers (hi mom!).

- The Blades have announced a pre-season kick-off party this Wednesday at MacDaddy's. You'll get to meet some of the players on the roster this year.

- My new favorite site is Stunned Fans. There are some really hilarious pictures you have to see! You can also follow them on Twitter.

- The Blades jersey has moved up in THN's jersey tournament. They now have all the jerseys divided up by geographical region, not league. If you have not voted, you have to! I will not accept any team I like losing to the Flyers in any way.

- Another ugly hockey jersey, it is just too easy to find these things.

- Wikipedia hockey page of the week "India national Ice Hockey Team", I never would have guessed that team existed.

We just keep getting closer and closer to the start of the season, only a few weeks left...

Make it 15

The Blades announced the signing of a new player yesterday. Defenseman Cleve Kinley is the 15th player signed for this season. His HockeyDB stats are here. He played for coach Cameron on the Wildcatters for the 07-08 season, and played for the Thunder last season. You can see him at the 2:10 mark in this YouTube video from 2008, when he was playing for the Wildcatters, fighting David Cornacchia of the Everblades.

It's always funny to watch old YouTube clips, did you see Herauf and Grenzy
fighting? Did you spot the Baker jersey? Anyway, it's good to see the roster filling up, that means only one thing, it's almost hockey season!

Finally!

Seems my short break payed off, The Blades announced that Ryan Lang will be back this year. I guess Colin Nicholson will have to find someone else to be his biggest fan. If you remember Lang was out quite awhile after he injured his shoulder, but came back in time for the playoffs. You can see his HockeyDB stats here. I'm very excited that he's coming back this year, and now I really can't wait for season to begin! we only have about a month to go before the Blades play those practice games against Gwinnett.
