You Better Roy-tch Out!

(Get it?)

Yesterday the Blades announced that forward Mathieu Roy (pronounce waaah, get the joke now?) will be back again this season. He had 46 points last season, and was called up twice to the AHL. (His Stats at HockeyDB)

This means that all my friend's favorite players are back next season, while my favorite player has yet to sign the contract he was offered (move it Lang or I'm switching to Nicholson). It also means we're up to nine signed players.

Ugly Jerseys and Other Randomness

Since nothing else has been going on in the last few days I've spent way to much time trying to get my hockey fix any way I can. So for everyone else looking for a fix, here is some random hockey stuff.

-A friend sent me this link to a Flickr stream of some truely hideous minor league hockey jerseys.

-The Everblades have a Twitter account!

-Random Wikipedia Hockey page Underwater Ice Hockey.

-Finally the newest ECHL team introduced their mascot, Spike. He is apparently supposed to be a walleye, but he looks like a bannana and a hockey player had a baby.

It's Pronounced BROW!

The Blades just announced they have signed centerman Benjamin Breault. He has played the last 5 years in the QMJHL. A look at his stats courtesy of HockeyDB...

Aside from having a stunning head of hair (check the Everblades page), he also was included in a documentary called Junior in 2007. The movie is all about the junior hockey program he was playing for and the system up there in general. You can find the movie on Netflix, but you have to wait until I return it.

Most of what I'm reading online says he's a quick guy with good hands, and seems to be a play maker as well. Seems to be a good player, but as always we'll have to wait till the season starts to find out.

Equipment Manager Gets a Promotion

Congratulations are due to Jason MacDonald, the Everblades equipment manager. He is leaving after 3 years with the Blades to become the assistant equipment manager for the Florida Panthers. Way to go!

No word yet on who will be replacing him.

Waiting...

After extensive googling, it turns out our new rookie Scott Hotham is pretty much everything the Blades are making him out to be. He did very well playing for St. Mary's University, he received quite a few awards (I don't feel like listing all of them). Of course the real test will be when the season starts, but I have confidence that we have a great player.

On another note, there are 8 players that have been offered a contract that have not accepted them. The Blades announced the offers on 7/1/09 to- Milan Gijac, Ryan Lang, Steve McJannet, Patrick Bordeleau, Alex Parent, Brad Herauf, Dominic D'Amour, and Michael Grenzy. I'm sure they all need time to think about it, but I wish they would hurry. These are some of my favorite guys!

Lucky Number Seven

The Everblades have just announced the signing of a seventh player for the 09-10 season. Scott Hotham, a defenseman, has been playing for a university up in Nova Scotia. According to the Blades he's made quite a name for himself (which I plan to check on once HugesNet decides to let me have some bandwith). Update to follow...

First!

Instead of writing about how excited I am to be starting this blog I figure it's much easier to just jump straight in. They have announced several signings since the (heart breaking) end of last season. So far our 2009-2010 roster looks like this

Defense- Metcalf, and Zanon
Forwards- Nicholson, Hartlieb, and Baker

There was a signing of Jadran Beljo from the OHL, but so far he is not listed on the teams roster yet, so I'm holding off. If I get a chance tomorrow I will do some digging, to see if any guys from last season have signed with other teams.
