Blades Sign Lemieux

The Everblades announced the signing of forward Francis Lemieux today. The most interesting thing so far is the quote the Everblades included in the press release from Greg Poss,
"Francis is a good, fast skater. He’s spent most of his career in the American League and with that kind of experience we’re expecting him to show good leadership as well. He is a solid all-around player that is strong at both ends of the ice, and he’s the type of player we’ll be looking to be possibly on our top line.”

Interesting right? To me, it looks like Lemieux is being targeted to play a leadership role. He's the second oldest of all the players on the roster so far, and has the most AHL experience. The information on him over at Hockey's Future is also worth a look. They praise his work ethic and dedication especially.

And a video from his time with the Las Vegas Wranglers:

It certainly seems that Lemieux will have a shot to get on the top line when training camp rolls around. He may even have a chance to earn the "C". It's definitely looks like he is Ross Carlson's biggest competition for both spots so far. Training camp is going to be interesting...

  1. I can not see him staying in the ECHL for any extended period of time, he is simply too good. It also seems that the boys on our AHL affiliate are already expecting him up there. So that says a lot. Don't count on having him long or possibly not at all.

  2. Wow, thats really interesting. Which AHL team, Charlotte or Norfolk? I'm proud to say I've learned not to get my hopes up. Half the guys who started last season didn't finish it.

  3. Charlotte Checkers. Don't get me wrong, this signing was a great move. Lemieux is charismatic and talented. But far too talented for the ECHL level of hockey. However, if we get lucky enough to have him fot any period of time it will do us a lot of good.

  4. I have to agree. One or two games of him in action would make me happy. Plus, he wouldn't be the first super successful player to bide his time with the Blades while waiting for a spot in the AHL (McFlicker comes to mind).
